Human Racing--unraveling the racing scene through people
The next issue of "Racers" will be titled "RVF / RC45 (tentative) " and will feature Honda's "mass-production bike-based" racers that raced in the Superbike class and the Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race around the world, which began in 1994.
Incidentally, RVF is the common name for this bike (the common name to the outside world).
On the other hand, RC45 is the so-called development code used within Honda.
Until 1993, the pinnacle of motorcycle 4-stroke racing was the TT-F1 class.
Although the engine limit was 750 cc, there were no special regulations for the frame or other bodywork, and in other words, the more cost spent, the higher the fighting power of the bike, meaning that only the factories could win races.
The Superbike class was created in 1994 to break out of such a blockage. The scope of engine modifications was limited, and the regulations required the use of unmodified mass-produced motorcycles for the bodies.
In other words, the potential of the base bike (i.e., mass-produced bike) determined the outcome of the race.
Prior to the inauguration of this superbike, Honda developed, produced, and launched the mass-produced RVF.
So the racing department (HRC) has turned it into a racer...but is it really......?.
In the early stages of the All-Japan Championship, neither Norifumi Abe, the 500cc class champion of the previous year, nor Takuma Aoki, who had become HRC's leading rider that year, were able to win
Why was that?In detail.
How was RC45 born? There were many vicissitudes in the development of the homologation model of the Superbike.
The RC45 has been cancelled twice - Mr. Tadashi Horiike, who served as LPL, reveals the story behind the birth of the RC45, which has never been told before.
A racing machine that retains the framework of a mass-produced bike = Superbike.
While modifications were strictly limited, the machines nevertheless changed from year to year.
The camera takes a closer look at the metamorphosis of the RC45 and its detailing.
The '97 SBK champion bike is also included.
